Well….let’s try this ride again. Due to COVID-19 state restrictions this ride was postponed in December 2020. While we are not getting away from the Christmas hustle and bustle at this time of year we can still enjoy a great ride and still go to Oakhurst for a one-nighter. I am leading a ride to Oakhurst near Yosemite and would like for you to join me! This is going to be the Polar Bear Ride III and we will spend one night of socializing and relaxation at the Best Western Plus Yosemite Inn in Oakhurst just outside Yosemite National Park. This is one of my favorite places to go and for several members this place has created some great memories. Everyone that went on the last two Polar Bear rides have had an absolute BLAST! So let’s make some more great memories this year!

After our pre-ride briefing we will head north on Highway 101 to Highway 46 west Chevron / McDonalds and pick up north county riders, take on fuel, brief new riders, and take a break (58.6 miles). After our break we will continue north on Highway 101 for a short distance to Highway 46 east. We will continue east and turn off on the Highway 41 exit to Fresno and we will make our next stop at the 76 Station in Kettleman City topping off the tanks (57.4 miles). We will have a bite to eat at the Subway that is located in the 76 Station or you can walk across the street and go too Carl’s Jr. If you so desire you can head across Highway 41 to Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Jack in the Box, or In-N-Out but we are not spending a lot of time here so when it is time to go….we are going! Subway is your best bet or like I said…..the Carl’s Jr. located right behind the 76 Station.
After lunch we will continue to head north on Highway 41 and after passing through Fresno we will stop for a short break to get rid of lunch liquids at the Madera Chevron located at the intersection of Highway 41 / Avenue 15 (69.7 miles). This is not a fuel stop. After a short break we will continue north on Highway 41 where we will be traveling through the plains and we will start getting into some twisties, elevation changes, and we will start seeing lots of rocks and a lot more trees as we travel through Coursegold and on into Oakhurst and to our destination (100 miles from Kettleman City) the Best Western Yosemite Gateway Inn. We will stop at the Chevron Station on the right as we come into town and before we go to the hotel so we don’t have to fuel up when we leave on Day 2. Total mileage: 217
After arriving in Oakhurst and getting settled in we will discuss dinner activities, socialize, and relax at the pool / hot tub.
UPDATE 03/25/2021: Laurie found out that the pool and hot tub are currently closed. So….social time will be in one or more rooms or wherever we can find space at. The restaurant is still ‘Takeout’.
After breakfast (currently a grab a go bag) on Day 2 we will head back south on Highway 41 south and head to Lemoore and take the Baker Street Exit, make a left, travel under the Highway 41 overpast and we will make a fuel stop at the Lemoore Chevron (77.2 miles). After our fuel stop and a short break we will continue south on Highway 41 / Highway 46 toward Paso Robles and Highway 101 and exit Highway 46 west to the Chevron / McDonalds Station (81.9 miles) where we will fuel up, take a break and say our goodbyes. Then it is back on Highway 101 and back to the Santa Maria area to terminate the ride.
Now….I just hope it is cold for the Polar Bear Ride! If you have any questions please let me know and you can contact me at PhilipRietz@comcast.net
