After the pre-ride briefing we will exit the parking lot to the right and get into the left hand turn lane at the traffic light. We will turn left and head to the Highway 101 northbound on ramp. We will head north on Highway 101 to the Highway 166 exit (8.3 miles) and continue east on 166 to Maricopa (75.9 miles). We will turn left and head north on Highway 33 through Taft and pick up Highway 119 and travel through Ford City, Valley Acres and Dustin Acres until we come to the junction of Highway 43 (22.8 miles) where we will stop for fuel at the Shell Station and take a break (107 miles from SM Chevron). We will turn left and head north on Highway 43 and just after crossing Highway 5 we will make an immediate right onto Panama Lane and travel east for approximately 9 miles. We will then turn left onto Gosford Road and then right on White Lane and travel a short distance (2.4 miles) to Salty’s BBQ & Catering will be on our right just past Big Brand Tires.
Salty’s was featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri a few years back so I have been looking forward to making this trip once again and enjoying some good BBQ….other than my own of course! LOL! Rick, the owner, has several choices of meat to choose from as well as sides.
After lunch we will head east a short distance and make a right onto Ashe Road and then right back onto Panama Lane and back to Highway 43 where we will head north and we will make a left onto Hageman Road / Old Hwy 58 and travel through Buttonwillow as we make our way to McKittrick and pick up Highway 33 before picking up Highway 58 and head west to Santa Margarita where we will stop at the park (128 miles from the Shell Station) for a break and to say our goodbyes (70.3 miles). This will be our termination point for the ride. From here it is 40 miles back to Santa Maria.
